Diablo II problem / Comcast

My buddy who lives down the street from me can't connect to any of my battle.net games, nor can I connect to his. We both get "game does not exist" messages. Is there any reason why us being on the same cable node (Comcast.net) would affect our ability to play in the same game?

Just a few things from when I used to play....

Are you both logged into the same servers?
(Open/closed-east/closed-west?)

Are you both playing at the same level? (normal/hell, etc..)

Are you hosting the game yourself? and if so, does your neighbor have the correct game-name/password? (case sensitive?)

Or is this a private game where your neighbor logs into your game by IP address? Diablo II problem / Comcast - PC gaming Tech (5)

Are playing open Battle.net? If you are playing open then the game is hosted on your machine. If you are behind a firewall or a router no one will be able to connect until you open the correct ports or place your PC in the DMZ. If they are both connected directly to the cable modem then you should be able to do this.

Need more info on how these computers are connected to the net.

These games are just on normal Battle.Net. Not open Battle.Net.......(i.e. I create a game or he creates a game) The only connection between our two computers is through each of our cable modems.

i've had that problem before. use a password and you'll both get in the game. but i haven't had that problem lately. put each other in your friends list so you can see what game each other goes into. make up a password and use the same password for every game. then you both will always know the password.

to add to friends list. /f username add
to see friends list. /f list

you will see every time he goes on or off bnet and what games he goes into.

Most of what I can think of would not say "game does not exist" but other messages.
For game does not exist, the few things I can think of are:

1- spaces. Spaces must match. A game called KillIzualNow is different from KillIzual Now

2- timing. I have to wait a couple of seconds to join a game that a friend creates. I see him enter the game, but if I try right away, I will get the "doesn't exist" message. Looks like it takes a few seconds for the game to exist even after I get the message that he has entered it.

Can both of you enter the same game created by someone else?
Pick a game like 'Trades Now' and see if you both can get in. If so, that will eliminate a lot of possibilities, and other things can be focused on, but 'game does not exist' should not have that many different possibilities if you can both enter a game made by a 3rd party.

I was told this happens when you are tagged by b.net. When you are tagged you can only play with other tagged people unless you join or create a game with a password. If one of you is using a program such as map hack get rid of it. It may take up to a few days before b.net does untagged you or your friend if this is the problem. Just to make something clear I'm not saying you or your friend use cheats because I know b.net has the tendency to tag people for no good reason.

to answer your question. it's has nothing to do with your cable connection. i have had 3 computers running d2 at the same time in the same game with 1 IP address on a router. sometimes i will start a game on one computer and enter the game on the other computer to move stuff.

like i said. i've had that problem before. not sure why it happens. but i haven't had that problem in a while. but when i did, i would just use a password.

good luck and enjoy Diablo II problem / Comcast - PC gaming Tech (15)

let us know if you can join a game together with a password.

My understanding is that tagged comes from sending packets to BNet. My understanding also is that maphack is only reading what is sent to your system. Tagged can come if other plug ins are used like the magic find pump.
And yes, tagged is another possibility.

Created a password protected closed Battle.Net game, and it worked fine.
